Our why
WHY SCENCE?
A birth should not and does not define who you are as a woman.
Scence takes its name from matrescence, the physical, emotional and psychological shift of becoming a mother. Much like adolescence, it reshapes who you are, yet the physical changes are often overlooked.
We’re here to change that. Leaking, heaviness, pelvic pain and a body that feels unfamiliar are common, but they’re not something you have to live with. At Scence, you get one-on-one care tailored to your body, your birth and your goals.
It makes scence.

COMMON QUESTIONS
-
All physiotherapists are trained to assess and treat the body’s muscles, joints and movement. A pelvic health physiotherapist has completed additional training in the pelvic floor, bladder, bowel and sexual function, and in caring for women through pregnancy and after birth. That means we can assess and treat concerns a general physio usually doesn’t, such as leaking, prolapse, pelvic pain and postnatal recovery.
-
No. Pelvic floor concerns can happen at any stage of life, including during pregnancy, around menopause, with high-impact exercise, or without ever having had children.
-
It’s common, but it’s not something you have to live with. Leaking after birth often improves with the right pelvic floor assessment and a tailored exercise program..
-
You can, but many women aren’t sure they’re doing them correctly. An assessment checks your technique and makes sure the exercises suit your body. Some women need to strengthen, while others need to learn to relax their pelvic floor.
-
Yes. Pregnancy itself places load on your pelvic floor. Physio can help you prepare beforehand and recover well afterwards, including scar care and a safe return to exercise.
-
It depends on your goals and what we find at your assessment. After your first appointment, you’ll know your plan and roughly how many sessions to expect.
-
No. Physiotherapists are primary healthcare practitioners, so you can book directly online. If your GP, midwife or obstetrician has referred you, we’ll keep them updated on your progress.
-
Yes, if your extras cover includes physiotherapy. How much you get back depends on your fund and level of cover.
-
Yes. Babies are always welcome, and you can feed, settle or change them whenever you need to.
